I currently have accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn. I had Google Buzz until about 10 minutes ago. The more I've dabbled the social media, the more annoyed and paranoid I get. I know people who have gotten into trouble because of social media.
Here's how I think about it: If I want to get on a pedestal and shout something to thousands of people (many of whom I don't know), I'll put in on a social network. But, here's the problem: I'm shy. What's the result of this - very few posts. That makes me a lurker. I don't mean to lurk. I'm the same way in a crowd of people.
Then, of course, is the paranoia.
Let's say I'm going on vacation. I'm careful to buy timers for my lights and stop my mail and paper so that it doesn't look like I'm not home. Why would I go on FB or twitter and say, "hey, my entire family and I going on vacation, can't wait"?
It's not just me...http://pleaserobme.com/why
I spent about 1.5 hours on this one. Did it because it was a good time to look further at what I will and won't be saying on FB.
